About the Wayne Lehman Memorial Scholarship

Wayne Lehman, Delaware Envirothon Wildlife Committee Volunteer and namesake of the Wayne Lehman Scholarship Fund

Wayne Lehman worked for the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control, Division of Fish and Wildlife as a Wildlife Biologist and Wildlife Regional Manager for 30 years. While enjoying retirement he also chose to return to the Division of Fish and Wildlife part time as a biological aid enabling him to continue to be involved in some of his favorite projects.

A lifelong outdoorsman, Wayne enjoyed hunting, fishing, and wildlife photography. He was active in the establishment of the Delaware Sportsmen Against Hunger Program and continued to assist with the program. He also received great pleasure from passing on knowledge and outdoor experiences to young people. Wayne would give classroom talks and conduct field trips with youth volunteers interested in environmental studies.

Wayne was a familiar face at Delaware Envirothon Wildlife Training Workshops and the Envirothon Competition for over 10 years. He was a long-time volunteer with the Delaware Envirothon Wildlife Committee. He served on the Wildlife Committee, starting in 2008, serving as Chair of the Committee from 2012 – 2014. He stayed on as a member through early 2019 after his retirement from DNREC. After his passing in 2019, the annual scholarship for competition champions was named after him in recognition of his longstanding contribution.
